I have the honour to acknow-

ledge the receipt of your despatch No.

17 of the 8th ultimo enquiring whether,

in approving the proposed rates of

salary for the Indian Police, I intend-

ed that such approval should extend to

the recommendations made by the re-

trenchment committee as to bonuses and

pensions.
